Skeena Region
When I first talked to Guy Tucker he was very keen to get into BC Salmon
and Steelhead on his new Speyrod. Spending a week in Skeena country the
year previous with a spincasting guide he came up with a strikeout and
a trip back to the dugout. This season Guy hit for the cycle including
a Grand Slam home run as all Salmon species and a Steelhead came to the
fly for our Pilot from Seattle WA.
When Guy booked his trip to Skeena country he flew his own plane into
the abyss from Washington the Terrace BC. Guy tells me he flew for 2.5 Hrs.
in whiteout conditions filled with dense fog, with only his gages to
guide him into Heaven. Once on the ground Guy spent the entire
afternoon and evening sleeping it off awaiting his next days adventure.
Guy booked as a single angler and joined two other groups oil
spill. The black mass was Salmon! On the way into our first pool we
watched as a Grizzly sow and two cubs sauntered along the rivers during his
weeklong stay plus a day. The mornings of day one Guy as well two other
anglers were guided into a pristine river via Helicopter. Not a bad way
to start out your trip, eh. Our chopper pilot set us down in numerous
emerald green pools filled with what looked like from the air as an edge in
search of food and fun. Fishing the first pool we had an unexpected
fisherman show up across the river. A small but aggressive Grizzly
sniffed his way along the shoreline and disappeared into the dense
brush, not until we snapped a few great shots of him. Seeing these
Grizzly bears in the wild is something that is not only breathtaking but
also
marvelous. I guess when glaciers surround you and rock faces
it is all a wonderland.
After numerous fish we choppered up to the next pool, and the next
until we could not fish no more and the river was merely a trickle off
of the massive glacier that fed this amazing watershed. On our trip
back to the Terrace airport the chopper pilot dropped us off at the
doorstep of the lodge, man the smiles we had when we landed, eat your
heart out Hollywood.
Guy fished allot of the streams on the BC coast from the Skeena to the
Nass to the Kitimat we swung a fly into them all. Running Coho and
Steelhead on the Skeena, fresh Kings on the Nass, running Chum and Pink
on the Kitimat, it was a dream come true. Not only for the clients but also
as well the guides. Of all the clients I have guided over the years Mr.
Tucker was the easiest going. Bouncing around from guide to guide, group
to group he prevailed and won the finest prize of all, a excellent trip
and hooking all these fish on the fly. If a trophy were to be handed out
Guy would have received it. Having spent a season or so as a guide
himself he realized what it took to keep everyone happy each and
everyday. Attached are some of Guys takes on the fly as well a series
of photos detailing the chopper trips we offer located in the photo
gallery.
