Canada Day/ Independence Day Fishing Report
Wow what a week we have had on the local streams. Guests from Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and Spokane were all into tight lines landing many Chinook salmon. Our best day was 13 Chinook, a personal record. Warren, Ted and 12-year-old Blake were pumped with the action we were getting. It was unfortunate as I dropped my digital camera in the water so allot of my pictures are on 35mm, don’t worry fellas I will have them scanned and published on the website soon.
Our clients from Prince George will have memories they will never forget. Len hooked into a large Tyee weighing in at 36lbs. That day he hooked and lost one allot larger pushing 50lbs. I had to change to larger hooks as one fish we landed turned the shank of the hook to 90 degrees, something I have never seen before.
Our latest guests were the Steilen group from Spokane Washington. Attached are some of the fish we landed as well the group photo.
One memory of the trip that sticks in my mind was when Tom hooked a large King. I could see the silver sheen on its body as it turned in the clear water, it was massive. When Tom finally got a tight line the fish had ran so far upstream the rod in his hand was pointing the opposite direction. I had no choice but to grab the rod and get control of the feisty King. After a second or two the fish turned downstream, I then was going to hand the rod off to Dick making for a three way effort on this fish, and suddenly the hooked popped out, simply amazing.
The Pink and Chum Salmon are entering the system in nice numbers, as the fly rods will be singing all week. We will be on the Kalum River as well this week chasing record size Chinook Salmon. The Kalum is known for its large fish so hang on and see you on the water.
