What can I say the last week has produced some hogs up here in Skeena country. With Mothers Day just around the corner this fortunate mother was handed an early gift as the local Steelhead allowed for some great photo opportunities. Attached are a few of the many BC Steelhead that angler Brenda tied into. With some great tail walks and huge pulls on the line, these fish have been recorded to push into the 20lb plus category. Brenda has proven she can dance with them all, big and small. From ocean fresh does to colored up bucks she has brought them to the net. The large male Steelhead in this photo is fresh in from the ocean and once hooked took her into the last few yards of her line. We had to make the decision and walk the shoreline recovering the many yards that stretched out into the spring breeze. It was an amazing tug of war between the two of them and the sky’s parted when Brenda landed this respectable ocean running Rainbow. Is fly selection important, does it really matter?? These are the questions a guided as well a purest asks when wetting a line. The answer, you bet it does. This season has proven it many times as a change in fly produces a reaction, when the last few casts in the same pool has produced no bites with a different fly. When you visualize Steelhead rolling in a tail-out you can guess a proper selected fly will give results. As May enters it second week look forward to more action from Skeena Country BC, tight lines.
