Skeena Region
Our guests all from Alberta this week were into tight lines as the Upper
Kalum drifts have been our best producer. We landed a few nice steelies on
the Kitimat, attached is a pic of angler Blake Hassett with a nice hatchery
fish. Our oil patch threesome had a ball as Bruce Leslie landed his very
first of three wild Steelhead very fresh and chrome. Attached is another
pic of Dale Whittaker releasing a Steelhead after a hard fought battle, note
the clarity of the water.
With ambient temperatures soaring to 26C the run-off has started and the
rivers have swelled somewhat making for a push of fresh fish and an increase
of water temps. To 45F. Forecast calls for hot and sunny weather all week,
tapering off toward the weekend and becoming cooler. For the Salmon anglers
our friends at the lodge hooked a large, fresh Chinook on the fly, only to
see it bent the hook straight and off it went. This will make for some
interesting action as peak Steelheading is near as well a possible pull from
a Salmon.
This week at the lodge we will be guiding a number of anglers from the USA
and the UK. See you on the water.
