We'll the season is getting underway for steelheadheaven.ca,
and the the first drift down the Kitimat river was a success.
The weather was fair and the water was the perfect color.
My fishing partner, and assistant guide, Archie Begin started
the day with a slow start, but soon turned quickly. We landed
five beautiful Steelies, most were males, and were all the
15lb. range.
We were using a variety of angling tecniques, the first was
float fishing roe in the chop water. We also used various
lures or spoons in the deep pools. Finally we used the fly
rods and because the river was raining trout and char it was
every drift a fish was on.
We will be fishing the Kitimat all this season so get yourself
booked now.
I will be posting often and will also be adding anglers tips.
And todays tip is when float fishing for steelhead ensure
your line is freespooling from the drum without any resistance
as your float drifts down the river. This makes your attraction
more realistic to the fish as it will be the same speed as
other food that is flowing down the river. Adjust your backlash
knob to get this speed down. Hope this helps and TIGHT LINES!
