These Steelhead, in part of paradise, are very healthy as you can see in the pics below. The river was in prime shape; water temps 41F, very aggressive fish for late summer runners, or are they winter fish?
I was fortunate enough to hook and land three chromers on my double hander, a sweet rod, the Sage 8136, with my Waterworks reel and Skagit head; a nice 10ft sink tip and a 4ft leader. Not to mention my creation of the last tie before midnight, a simple pattern I call the "Kalum Popsicle". All these fish including another one, two pools later, fell victim to my tantalizing Spey Fly.
My fishing partner, a local medicine man, hooked his first steelhead on this stream during our short day on the water, as well three big Coho's, what a day! As the winter has arrived and the snow has dumped, we are in the close confines of the home preparing for next season, as well some day’s winter fishing, of course. Living up in Skeena country, BC is like Lake Tahoe for the Skier. Tight Lines.
