November 2005
Coho Report Skeena Region

This season’s run of fresh Coho Salmon was to say the least awesome. With stories coming from the Lower Mainland and scares of low runs, we on the other hand are getting runs in Spades. Maybe it is our year; maybe it’s because of the Skeena, maybe the commercial fishing, maybe the fish farms, who does have the answers to the almighty questions. Maybe its better we don’t know. What I do know is that when 80-year-old Doctor Ketelslegers contacted me about a trip to Skeena country for Steelhead and Coho, I had to smile.

For those anglers who say, “I’m to old to go on a fishing trip”, I say, Bullocks to that. Here is a man who looks in his late 60’s carries himself quite well, can cast a Spey Rod for five days in row, throw large flies with sink tips, manage cold, rainy weather he was at par with all of us. Someday when I am 80 years old this motivational thought of the Doctor will get my ass up from the couch and wet a line.

Doctors fishing partner, Maxime fished his 15’ Hardy like a robot, cast, move, cast, move and it paid off. Attached are some of the fishing action pictures of our pair of gentlemen from Belgium, who will be back for our spring Steelheading in April, tight lines.
