Steelhead Report
Attached are pics of our boys from Scotland. Murray is in grasps of a fresh doe Steelhead that took his swung fly at one of our popular Steelhead pools. Another is of his brother Billy who hooked this summer run Steelhead on a favorite Atlantic Salmon fly he uses when not in Canada. With winter around the corner and frost on the rafts most morning chill is in the air and so is Steelhead fever. With river conditions playing a part in catch numbers we have seen a considerable drop in not only river level but temperature as well. Water temps are running from a high of 52F down to a constant 48F. With the warm sun on the waters surface, the Steelhead are rising to food, in fact jumping over top of floating line is not uncommon.
Attached is a pic of return client from this summer, Alexi, who had a 3 fish day on hook-ups making for some excellent spey fishing with his new rod. Alexi and I ventured to coastal micro-streams in search of fresh running Coho, as you can see from the attached photo the river is gin clear and very low making for a great opportunity for sight fishing.
With this being a busy time of season I am making this a short report. Currently at the lodge guests are arriving on a steady basis and our final week on the lower Skeena is shaping up for a doozy. Sights on the water are awesome as many bears are photogenic in search of Salmon carcasses littering the river banks, as well the nest making of the Bald Eagles, who break branches off the trees with there weight and fly to the nest to make the winters home. Not to mention the up close photo that Billy took of a Bull Moose crossing the river, tight lines.
