KITIMAT RIVER FISHING REPORT: THE POLISH INVASION - September 29, 2009
Turn down the stove as the Coho fishing is boiling over again this week here in the wild wilderness of the Kitimat and lower Skeena region.
Attached in pic number 1 is repeat clients for many years now, John and Tom from the UK. These guys had days on the water that toppled all records with a 30 fish landed and as John calls it a 100 day hook-up! The evenings around the fire were full of joy and allot of Wisers Deluxe.
Our small river micro-stream fishing out of Kitimat is still pumping out the numbers as our first timers, a pair of Doctors from Japan, hammered the fish with the spoons and minnow patterns. It was a good thing as the heavy rains the past week had blown out all the rivers in the area so 1-2 good days on the water was a bonus.
This year we are fortunate to guide anglers from many parts of the world and this month is no exception as the boys from Poland visited us for a short period after a week Sturgeon fishing the Fraser. This was the first time these guys have fished for Coho and were very impressed with the numbers of fish and the fight they produce. A bit different than the 10ft Sturgeon they landed last week! We look forward to seeing the guys from Poland next year for the June Chinooks.
With our Steelhead season in full swing, our 8 time repeat client Hak, was in town this month and again fooled a 40 inch Steelhead to his swung spey fly, not to mention other nice Steelhead while in high water conditions on the lower Skeena tributaries. Joining Hak was Mr. Yamada who as well landed Steelhead on the fly.
With the rivers on the drop and the morning temperature around 4C our final 2 weeks of Steelheading should be a good one as Ebi and his group will be arriving soon as well our longtime client, Keith from England.
