Chinook Report Kitimat River BC

Chinook fishing in the Kitimat region has been hit and miss this week as water conditions are fluctuating in level and clarity. Joel from Paris, France spent a time on the water looking for the Kings of the Kitimat. Speycasting as many as 11hrs a day this persistent Easterner proved to be a man of casting power. His fly selection was for Chinook only as he has landed may in his day on the fly. Our early group from Alberta, who last year performed with 20 fish days, joined Joel. This trip was not as successful, but nonetheless allot of fun, as the boys landed some respectable Chinook, and limiting out on fresh Dungeness Crab. One of the highlights was the close up encounters we had with the large Bald Eagles that circled above and near. We offered our Salmon entrails to them and in return we got close up video footage as well spectacular still photos. Watching within meters, as an adult Eagle opens its talons to grab the fish was simply amazing. Then landing on an old, bark free, log to enjoy his treat right before our eyes.

Our latest trip was a real sweetheart day as the South African Doctor put the needles into this 40lber after a hard fought battle. Also attached is his partner John who took a Chinook in a fast trough of water and landed it ¼ mile downstream, a chromer for sure!

As it is the last of June we can expect our runs to continue well into July for the peak season. Our Halibut and Saltwater trips are producing as well and the Crab are filling the traps. We are getting bookings all the time for the latecomers so don’t hesitate to call or email for a day trip. The Skeena is dropping and should be fishing very soon with no road closures and Mother Nature taking the summer off, tight lines.
