March, 2010 Steelhead Report
Mr. Yamada has been addicted to Steelhead Heaven and big Steelhead ever since he made his 1st cast in Skeena country, years ago.. Sinzo, a quiet man, with speycasting his weapon of choice, not to mention uses a traditional Japanese 30ft rod with no reel for funzies. We as guides all enjoy his presence and we learn so much for clients like Sinzo, small things that make us better guides. This particular Steelhead was for sure a fish of a lifetime for any Metalhead, and of course when I put that bad boy into the net we chuckled. The one that got away was the best for Sinzo as this huge Steelhead pulled and pulled so fast that it broke the line when the handle of the reel nailed his thumb, making him bleed. He looked at me and said, Thats Steelhead Fishing! and he has been here for the Spring and Fall Steelhead ever since.
We are gearing up right now and fishing a small percentage of pools for holding Steelhead, as well trying our new lines from Rio, the Skagit Flight and the AFS Spey. Rio has introduced many new interchangeable options. This past October I noticed repeat clients trying new systems. Looking forward to a good run of Steelhead in the next months to come.
